Adventure Islands

I have always had a big attraction for the Azores. I don’t know why in detail, but the name itself reminded me of a wild and lush place, dominated from the blue of the ocean and the green of nature.
So a couple of years ago I suggested this destination to my husband for our summer holidays, and he was enthusiastic. He does not love very much the typical “Italian vacation” that implies 10 hours of sunbathing at the beach, lots of people around, and a huge amount of food all-day-round – and so do I.
So we collected some information about this archipelago and planned our trip. We booked the flights with TAP air, and we should exploit their long-stopover program, having a night in Porto when going to the Azores and one in Lisbon when returning to Italy. Unfortunately, the flight for Porto was canceled just a couple of hours before landing, so we lost the opportunity to visit Porto, being guest of a very nice country club near…. Malpensa. Then, we should leave at 6 a.m. of the day after, landing to Lisbon and catching the connecting flight to Sao Miguel around 12 p.m. But also that flight had some problems, we made it to Lisbon right 5 minutes after the boarding closing, and were put on the next available flight, at 9 p.m. So we lived the experience to be “Lost in Lisbon” for 9 hours, and we try to get the best, taking a stroll in the city center, enjoying the sun, the views and some pastel de nata with coffee.

Finally, quite late at night, we arrived in Sao Miguel, ready to start our adventure… after a good recovery sleep!
Our trip was planned to touch the islands of Sao Miguel, Flores, Corvo, Faial, Pico, and Terceira. Quite ambitious for a 10 days trip, but we made it, and it was absolutely wonderful. The Azores now have a special place in my heart, and I highly recommend everyone a visit to enjoy the places, the people, the food, and the spirit of the islands, that will take your soul forever.
(For each island, I will write my impressions and suggestions. Stay tuned if you’re interested in this topic).
